Bringing Code to Capital Hill: Gateway Scripts Attends AAPM 2025 in DC
Gateway Scripts was proud to attend the 2025 AAPM Annual Meeting, held this year in the heart of the nation’s capital—Washington, D.C. The event kicked off with a high-energy AI symposium hosted by AAPM, featuring some of the field’s leading voices in artificial intelligence and data science. Topics included best practices for data cleaning and structuring, forward-thinking AI research projects, and an in-depth look at emerging FDA regulatory frameworks impacting clinical AI applications.

The day continued with the Radformation Technology and Innovation Workshop, offering a unique blend of behind-the-scenes insights from Radformation developers and real-world implementation stories from clinical users. The workshop’s breakout sessions covered a wide range of emerging topics including AI integration, Eclipse scripting, and adaptive radiation therapy.

To cap off a packed first day, attendees gathered at Varian’s Capital Scripts—an evening event hosted by the Varian Medical Affairs team. The session featured engaging talks on open-source ESAPI scripting, Vibe Coding, DICOM automation, Python workflows, and optimization strategies. The technical deep dives were matched by an equally impressive gourmet pizza bar and local craft beer, making for a relaxed and inspiring close to a dynamic day.

Connecting with the Community at Booth 2040
Beginning Sunday morning, Gateway Scripts was proudly stationed at booth 2040, where we were thrilled to reconnect with friends, former course participants, and fellow developers from across the globe. The booth served as a vibrant hub for discussions on clinical development pathways, the power of scripting in radiation oncology, and our suite of hands-on ESAPI training courses.

Throughout the week, we engaged with medical physicists and developers interested in Gateway Scripts’ mission of building clinical efficiency through education, automation, and innovation. The exhibit floor buzzed with energy, and our conversations reflected the field’s growing appetite for developer-focused education.

Highlights Beyond the Booth
Beyond the exhibit hall, Gateway Scripts also participated in a forward-looking session exploring the evolving roles within modern radiotherapy clinics. The session highlighted contributions from clinical programmers, advanced practice radiation therapists, clinical engineers, and our presentation on Medical Physics Assistants (MPAs). We emphasized how MPAs can help relieve QA burdens while expanding clinical capacity and quality. This year’s AAPM meeting also placed special focus on emerging clinical topics like adaptive radiation therapy, theranostics and radiopharmaceuticals—fields that promise to reshape the landscape of radiation oncology.

A Capital Experience
Of course, no visit to Washington, D.C. is complete without soaking in the city’s historic charm. Between academic sessions, attendees explored the Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol Building, and a range of incredible local restaurants near the convention center and throughout the city. The fusion of intellectual exchange and cultural exploration made for a truly memorable week.

Gateway Scripts is grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year’s AAPM Annual Meeting and is already looking forward to next year’s event. Whether you joined us at our booth, in a breakout session, or over a slice of pizza at Capital Scripts—thank you for helping make AAPM 2025 a success.
