Gateway Scripts Joins the Momentum at AAPM Spring Clinical Meeting 2025 in Henderson, Nevada
Gateway Scripts recently had the pleasure of participating in the AAPM Spring Clinical Meeting 2025, held at the striking M Resort Spa Casino in Henderson, Nevada. Nestled just off the Las Vegas Strip, the venue’s elegant conference spaces and proximity to the resort’s vibrant pool area—often the stage for concerts and special events—offered a perfect balance of professional focus and scenic relaxation.

This year’s meeting reflected a growing momentum in the medical physics community around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation. The Presidential Symposium, titled “AI in Medical Physics,” set the tone for the conference, followed by sessions like “Artificial Intelligence 101”, aimed at empowering physicists to understand and incorporate AI tools into their work.

Gateway Scripts contributed to the conversation through a recent blog post guiding developers on how to utilize AI in their scripting and development workflows, helping bridge the gap between emerging tech and real clinical applications. Recent blog posts include Application Development assistance with AI and UI design using LLM support.

Of course, the meeting wasn't all about AI. Highlights in clinical automation included Edward Clouser's innovative presentation on CBCT-Based Simulation Free Treatments for Urgent and Emergent Radiation Therapy, and a standout session titled "The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Invent it: Automating QA." In this session, Jean Moran and John DeMarco shared impactful insights on QA automation using EPIDs, service logs, and open-source analysis tools-- demonstrating the powerful ways clinics are evolving their QA protocols.

In the exhibit hall, the Gateway Scripts booth served as a hub for conversations with both seasoned scripting professionals and students just beginning their journey into automation. We were thrilled to reconnect with longtime friends and meet new faces-- physicists, developers, and educators -- who share a passion for streamlining clinical workflows through scripting. Visitors to our booth learned about our free resources, open-source tools, and clinical schools, designed to help clinics and individuals get started with the Eclipse Scripting API and Varian automation platforms.

And yes- this was Vegas after all! After the conference, the Gateway Scripts team took advantage of the surrounding beauty with a windy but gorgeous hike through Red Rock Canyon, which Z conveniently names Rainbow Mountain as we were driving toward the park, and a visit to Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, where unexpected green pastures and a shimmering lake offered tranquil contrasts to the week's high energy sessions. This trip wrapped up with the kind of dining experiences Las Vegas is known for, capping off a week that was equal parts inspiration, education, and exploration.
With a full schedule of upcoming scripting courses and continued engagement in AI and automation space, Gateway Scripts left Henderson energized for what's ahead. A huge thank you to the AAPM organizers, our booth visitors, and the vibrant medical physics community for making the 2025 Spring Clinical Meeting a memorable success. Here's to looking toward the future!
